will intime be extended through Middleburg and Oak Hill to meet theHudson again at Catskill. Another line from Albany and Troywill extend southeast to Pittjfield, Mass., there connecting withthe Pittsfield and Berkshire systems, running south as far as theConnecticut line and north through Cheshire, Adams, NorthAdams, to Williamstown. As one goes further west the proposedline will be noticed running from Fort Plain to Sharon Springs,a popular summer resort. Another projected line will be built inthe near future from Fort Plain through Springfield village toCooperstown, with a branch line to Richfield Springs. This linewill connect at the Springs and Cooperstown with the existingline of the Oneonta, Cooperstown & Richfield Springs Railway,which also proposes to build an extension from the Springs tothe main trunk line at Herkimer. Following the trunk line west,several proposed branch lines running due north to the popularsummer resorts along the shores of Lake Ontario will be seen.

In addition to the lines mentioned, the Rochester & Sodus Bays a very important one, running, as it does, between the twoplaces mentioned, a distance of some 36 miles. Buffalo has a very complete system of suburban lines. Thelines of the International Traction Company run through Tona-wanda and Lockport to the lake at Olcott, while another line fol-lows the Niagara River to its mouth. On the south and eastthere are many projected lines. In addition to the roads already referred to some mentionshould be made of the projected lines which, when completed,will be isolated for many years to come. The Liberty & Jeffer-sonville is now under construction. The Monticello, Fallsburg &White Lake, which proposes to build between the points men-tioned, has obtained the necessary rights from the Board of Rail-road Commissioners; the Mineola, Hempstead & Freeport hascompleted its line and is in operation; the Whitehall & Granvillehas
