ream. Take of white wax, ^ oz.; oil of sweetalmonds, 1; oz.; curd soap (in fine shavings),i oz.; glycerine, 3 oz.; borax, in powder, \ oz.Tosewater, 3 oz. Perfume with a few dropsof oil of bergamot or otto of roses. Proceed,lry dissolvingfirst the finely-shaved soap inthe rose water, which should be done byplacing then in a good sized bottle with awide neck. Then allow the bottle to standin a pan of water, which should be put ona gas stove, and gentle heat applied.When all the soap h^s dissolved, add theglycerine and borax, and shaketogether. Now put the whit! wa xwith the almond oil in a jar orbowl,placing it in a pan of water intbe same manner as the soap, andapply gentle heat until the wax isdissolved. Poor the oil, whilewarm, into the soap solution, andshake well up. Continue theshaking now and again until itbecomes cold, when the perfumemay be added. The finishedproduct should be white and ofa nice creamy consistence. Pre-serve it in a bottle and shakewell each time before using.

It requirescare and a little extra trouble, but it is cer-tainly worth both of these. Make a lather ofgood white soap, and let it stand until nearlycold. Put the chiffon in it and let it soak awhile. Then shake it gently around in thewater, passing it between the fingers, but notrubbing it. Now shake it out in clean water,changing the baths until there is no trace ofcloudiness in the water. Fill a cup half fullof water; drop in a morsel of pure gum arabic,and let this dissolve. Add to it a few dropsof white vinegar. Dip in the chiffon. Dontsqueeze or wring it dry, but lay it betweenvery soft white muslin and gently pat it withthe hand.
