Almost all the embroidery isplaced upon the bodice and jacket, for trimmedskirts, while always to a certain extentfashionable, are certainly not obligatoryin this years fashions, and after all itdoes seem wiser to have the greater partof the trimming where it is going to showup to the best advantage, and assuredlythis is not about the end of a skirt.Bands of embroidery sometimes workedupon another material, as silk or satiD,instead of upon the pongee itself, are seenmore than the embroidery direct upon thematerial, and to a certain extent this isthe same on the coats, although thebolero embroidered all over in differenttones of silk is far too effective to be con-sidered ont of fashion The new style ofbodice, with bodice and sleeve in one,formed by a wide surplice of silk or ofthe material itself bordered with silk,gives an excellent opportunity for aneffective display of embroidery, and theseflat bands of silk are also generally laidnpon other parts of the bodice and sleeve.

Long coats of pongee are most of them quiteloon- and have considerable trimming of lace,embroidery and bauds of silk. Over a recep-tion gown of light-coloured pongee a long,Iocse wrap of the same shade and materialnot only saves the gown tremendously butmakes an infinitely handsomer Style of costumethan when the dres.3 has to depend upon itselfalone. # * # Black and white and grey and white stripesare worn just now in various kinds of mate-rials. The pretty walking gown in the illus-tration is made in woollen material of lightweight and fine quality. In this case thestripes are light blue on a cream-colouredground. The smart coatee is finished off withstrapped bands and dark blue velvet ribbon. Neatly Dressed. There is an exquisite charm about a neatly-dressed woman. She does not wear her hairloose, as if it is just about to fall on hershoulders. Her gloves are not ripped at theseams, nor are any buttons missing from her,boots.
