It can be madeover a fitted or toned lining; it can be un inedif the wearer is slender, and it affords a basisfor all sorts of trimming; the bertha or thefichu finishes it equally well; the square cutwith bands over the shoulder and the RUmpc>or yoke of lace, or not—all are possible withthe baby bodice. ^ ^ ^ The batiste and lawn frocks with the entre-deux trimmings of fine embroidery of lace aremost becoming to young girls, and are madein all pale colours as well as white. The under-slips of batiste are considered more appropriatethan when made of silk, and certainly do givea little more dainty effect. White frocks are,as a rule, more costly, for they apparentlyrequire more trimming, and yet there are somemost attractive models that have little or no trimming except on the bodice.° * » # Our illustration this week shows a smartdemi-saison gown in a very fine quabty of blueserge. It is trimmed simply with bands ofbraid and fancy braid buttons.

From Falmouth, By Eliza Turck.Just oil tho narrow, tortuous, but busy mainstreet of this interesting old Cornish town isa quiet, retired little court, wherein standstho fine seventeenth century house from whichour illustration is taken. The granite pillarsshown in the photograph support two project-ing gables in a style that may be seen else-where in the delectable duchy, and, also inBrittany. There is a notable example atAlousehole, near Penzance, dating from 1595,the pillars square and massive, the walls ofthe house of immense thickness, characteristicof the age in which it was built. Although Bells Court, the, subject of ourphotograph (which, by the way, is unique, noneother of this particular view being in exist-ence), is unable to boast of such remote
