Despite all the arguments to the contrary,in nine cases out of ten a long coat, whetherloose or fitted, is more becoming than a short,necessarily shapeless, jacket. Fashion maydecree the Eton, bolero, blouse, or reefer, and,needless to state, her wishes will be followedout consistently through the season at least.But long jackets never seem to entirely dis-appear, even though they may not be pronouncedopenly to be the prevailing mode. ♦ * # For afternoons, a cloth costume at this timeof year is really better with a little fancifulbolero, than with a long fitted coat, which isbound to be uncomfortably heavy; and yet, thenewest models for autumn designs, show un-usually long fitted coats fastened all the waydown the centre, with silk or braid frogs, therest of the coat being sometimes quite plain,and again rather elaborately braided.
