rdingly decided tolay a cable across the river at Princetonto connect from the Northern CaliforniaPower Companys line at that place tothe 11 K. V. line running between Colusaand the Moulton ranch. To expedite the work, a steamer waschartered at Sacramento, loaded with thenecessary men and material and startedfor Princeton. It had been planned tolay this cable by running it off the reelcarried on the county ferry, but beforewe were ready to do the work the highwater had wrecked the ferry, and theregular river boat had to be used. Owing to the very high wind that wasblowing at the time and the swift cur-rent in the river due to the high wafer, this was a \er\ dangerous untlertaking. In fact, at one time, when a particularlyheavy gust of wind swept the boat broad-side, liie men threw oft their slickers, fully expecting that the boat was goingto be swamped. However, no more serious accidenthappened tlian a slight damage to thelead sheathing of the cable that took(ml\ a few licuirs to repair.
