If we stay inthe office we ought to be out rustling news—if we rustle fornews we are not attending to business at the office. If wewear old clothes we are slovens—if we wear new clothes theyare not paid for. What in thunderation is a poor editor todo, anyhow? Like as not someone will say we swiped thisfrom an exchange. So we did! * * * Music for the masses is all very well as a slogan, but whenit comes to someone getting delirious and inserting in a for-eign trade magazine American importers are interested in an unlimitedquantity of harmonicas —well, we are for rigorous import duties on luxuries. * * a: Hustle isnt an exclusive characteristic of New^ York, appar-ently. A plaintive item in the Western Electric News readsas follows: What Is the Wild West Saying? Rush our shipment . Urgent; wire answer . Please observe schedule . Trace shipment . Wanted urgently . If we took our favorite florists advice and said it with flow-ers, there wouldnt be any poison oak left in California.

ECHOES OF THE CONVENTION At first sight these dont seem to have very much to do with the Spokane convention, but they happen to be bona fide reproductions from thenotebook of a reporter. The association of ideas is somewhat difficult to follow, and we are not good at psycho-analysis, but the expression,of the cat at the right was probably seen on the face of a delegate watching a spider crawl round his neighbors collar. The sketch in thelower left-hand corner seems to be some heraldic device—a donkey-engine rampant on a magnetic field, perhaps. The inspired lady at the rightis somewhat difficult to tie-in with anything the reporter could have seen during convention, but may typify the expression of a speaker tryingto look unconscious while the chairman introduces him. ilS ISbUJb: ihe Airplane m Hydro-Electric Development in the Wesi Journal OF Elktriciit Entered as second class matter Jan. 1, 1917, at the post office at San Francisco under the Act of ronirre^^March 3. 1879.
