As will be seenfrom the cuts, the construction differs from anyheretofore employed, in that the conduits furn-ishing the current to a double track street rail-way, are both placed in the space between upand down track, instead of each conduit being the horses and the operation of street cars alongthe line is not interfered with during the periodof change from animal to mechanical motivepower. Over a considerable portion of the line inBoston now equipped by the conduit, cars were constantly running on half minute headway whilethe conduit was being laid. The space betweenthe tracks of a street railway, possess also theadvantage that it is the highest part of the street,the best drained and less used, while slot railslaid there are not open to the objection of caus-ing slipping of horses.
