The Van Depoele Electric Manufacturingcompany have devised a pillar and lamp, shownin the accompanying cut, for utilizing the car-propelling electric current to light up the street.Incandescent lamps may be mounted on the poles; and from their location in the middle ofthe street would illuminate it much better, andbe more readily accessible, than when placed onthe street sides. This would much improve theappearance of great thoroughfares, and may helpto get electric railways adopted in large cities.
