February i8 be lengthened still more or shortened if desired.This hub is chambered or recessed to receive anumber of hardened steel friction rollers (shownin the details and placed in the vertical section),and has also a recess on the inner end for a collarof aluminum anti-friction metal, which is shrunkupon the shaft; outside this collar provision is its end fitted in a cast-iron box and threaded fora wrought iron nut, or the box itself may bethreaded and serve the purpose of a nut. (3)The friction rollers of hardened steel are placedin a metallic cage also of carbonized anti-frictionmetal as shown in the details by end and frontviews. A careful examination of the annexed or less slip and strain upon the wheel and axle,but with this arrangement, the wheels are free tomove without detriment or strain.
