USED AS AN ANVIL But according to Herbert D. Snyder,of the Pennsylvania Rubber Company,Jeannette, Pa., there is an odd story con-cerning it. During the construction of the Balti-more and Ohio between Cumberland andConnellsville, two construction gangswere working from both terminals to meetat a point near the station of Casselman. When this point was reached it was nec-essary to cut one of the rails in order tomake it the desired length. One of theinhabitants, whatever his motive mayhave been, quietly took possession of thepiece of rail and hid it in a neighboringforest. A member of one of the construc-tion gangs saw the incident and, in turn, and just as quietly, became the possessorof the metal, later giving it to Mr. Snydersgrandfather. It has been in the possessionof the Snyder family ever since, and, ashas been said, is being used as an anvil.

22 REPRESENTATIVES FROM THE CHICAGO DIVISION FREIGHT CLAIM PREVENTIONCOMMITTEE IN SESSION AT WAWASEE, INDIANA, SEPTEMBER 19, 1917 Organization of Freight Claim PreventionCommittees to Reduce Loss andDamage Claims mHE question of cooperation enterslargely into all railway problems. The loss and damage claim isborn somewhere of a lack of co-operation. It will be admitted generallythat if the duties assigned to each em-ploye were properly performed and ifeveryone handled freight, or matterspertaining to freight, with the thoughtthat we must all work together to oneend, we would have no loss and damageclaims. The end of transportation service isDelivery, and unless we effect safeand proper delivery we will have tocontend with many loss and damageclaims. The management realizes that anenormous amount of money is being paidout account of improper handling offreight, improper cleaning and inspec-tion of cars, the mis-handling of waybills, improper stowing of freight, neglect totake seal record

This image dataset is generated from our world's largest public domain image database. Made in two steps (manual, and image recognition), it comprises of more than 35,000 images of all types and sizes - an astonishing number if keep in mind that the total number of steam locomotives ever built was just one order of magnitude larger. All images are in the public domain, so there is no limitation on the dataset usage - educational, scientific, or commercial. Please contact us if you need a dataset like this, we may already have it, or, we can make one for you, often in 24 hours or less.
