During the period between July 15 andAugust 18 inter-district games betweendistrict champion teams on lines eastand west separately were played. Cum-berland captured the eastern contestsan August 11, when by a score of 10 to 0New Yorks colors were lowered. Thegame was played at Cumberland. Onthe same day the lines west champion-ship was won by Garrett at Washington,Ind., when the home team went down todefeat by a score of 3 to 1. As stated above the Davis Cup will bepresented outright to the 1917 Systemchampionship team. The ThompsonCup, however, remains a challenge trophyuntil it is captured three successiveseasons by the same team. These cupshave been sent all over the System fordisplay at points where the greatestnumber of employes may view them.

Limited space has madeit impossible to print the addresses infull, but an earnest effort has been madeto give the gist and salient points ofeach of them. It is regretted that spacedoes not allow us to print in full Mr.Nortons talk on the great work of theAmerican Red Cross but as he and otherable writers and speakers are continuallykeeping the public informed as to theneeds and progress of the Red Cross itwas not deemed wise to print his addressto the exclusion of purely railroad topics.
