Pilot Kevin Kochersberger rides the Experimental Aviation Association's (EAA) 1903 Wright flyer reproduction down the 180 foot rail in his first attempt to reenact the "12 seconds that changed the world" during the Centennial of Flight celebration at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina (NC), December 17, 2003. The prevailing winds that brought the brothers to Kitty Hawk for their flight experiments weren't on hand at the Centennial of flight celebration. Despite two attempts between storm fronts the EAA crew was only able to get their 1903 Wright flyer reproduction about six inches off its rail before crashing at the end before a crowd of some 34,000 aviation enthusiasts

Widow of noted flyer receive medal. 12/13/30, Mrs. Florence Shaw Page receives the Distinguished Flying Cross awarded posthumously to the late Capt. Arthur H. Page, U.S. Marines, for this "pioneering" scientific [...] and successful accomplishment in the art of blind flying." The particular flight for which he received the medal was from Omaha to Anacostia, D.C., the distance of 1,000 miles having been made by flying blind the entire distance in one day. Capt. Page was also noted for having won the Curtiss Marine Trophy Race last spring, flying the 100-mile course at an average of 164 miles an hour. This oil dock is in a U.S. Atlantic coast seaport at which oil in large quantities is continually being transhipped for war purposes. The equipment belongs to on the the principal U.S. oil companies working at peak capacity to supply the Navy's mechanized equipment and warplanes of the United Nations. The amount of gasoline needed alone for the 180,000 planes manufactured by the U.S. since December 7, 1941 is indicated by the fact that to train one flyer pilot requires 12,500 gallons of gasoline, enough to last the average U.S. civilian motorist a lifetime
