four hours, we hadfine breezes from the southward, and very pleasant weather.We were now sailing with a fair wind, with all our light sailsset. Our little schooner was well adapted to these smooth seasand gentle breezes ; we made 190 miles during the last twenty-four hours, and were at noon in latitude 30° 23 S., longitude80° 28 W. Feb. 26th. Fresh breezes from the S. E., and clear, pleasantweather throughout these twenty-four hours. We had nowtaken the regular S. E. trades. It was delightful to sail beforethe wind in this mild climate and smooth sea (which is soappropriately called the Pacific Ocean), after having been buf-feted and tossed about off Cape Horn so long in so small a ves-sel. During the last twenty-four hours our little vessel made200 miles with perfect ease, and almost without shifting asingle sail. Lat. by obs. at noon 27° 4 S., long. 80° 28 W. From the 26th of February to the 5th of March, we had acontinuation of the S. E. trade-winds, and fine, pleasant weather,
