THE AMERICAN FLAG The official National ensign contains 45stars in a blue field, arranged in 6 rows—the 1st, 3d and 5th rows having 8 starseach, and the others having 7 stars each.The garrison flag of the Army is made ofbunting, 36 feet fly and 20 feet hoist;thirteen stripes, and in the upper quarter,next the staff, is the field or union ofstars, equal to the number of States, onblue field, over one-third length of the flag,extending to the lower edge of the founhred stripe from the top.
