The guests at the Chef of the Quarter competition help themselves to food at Anderson Hall Dining Facility aboard Marine Corps Base Hawaii, Aug. 12, 2015. The three competing food service specialists were Lance Cpl. Alejandro Cruz, of Northridge, Calif., Cpl. Derrick Goodman, of Philadelphia; and Lance Cpl. Hector Munguia, of Mesa, Ariz. The competitors were required to pass a written examination, stand before a board of food service staff noncommissioned officers and each prepare a meal, following an armed forces recipe with the chosen theme of the quarter; Latin American cuisine. Affording opportunities for competitions like Chef of the Quarter allows Marines to hone their skill and further the larger mission of Marine Corps Base Hawaii, which is to provide better service for the units, individuals and families in order to sustain combat readiness for all operating forces and tenant organizations aboard the installation.
