Aholiab directed themakino- of the curtains for the tabernacle; and above all hewrought the gorgeous garments of the high priest, whichare described at great length and detailed as to everyminute particular in Exodus, chapters 28 and 39. Thehigh priest was intended to be the chief personage amongthe Hebrews of future generations, hence everythingemploved by him in his office was made as elaborate aspossible. The art displayed by the Israelites in this work doesnot, however, seem to have been beyond that of Egypt ofthe time. God taught Bezaleel and Aholiab no newcraftsmanships or inventions. He only inspired themto employ their Egyptian knowledge in the highest wayand with the most beautiful results. And it came to pass in the first month in the second year,on the first day of the month, that the tabernacle toas rearedup.—Ex., AO, 17. AT LAST the preparatory work was finished,and in the middle of March, ahnost an entireyear after the departure from Egypt, came thefinal ceremony of erecting the tabernacle, Gods templein the wilderness. It must be remembered that this mar-velous structure had to be so arranged that it could all betaken down when Israel marched, and promptly set upagain wherever the tribes might camp. Therefore itstendance was an enormous task, and Moses selected fromthe tribes of Israel one entire tribe to serve in transportingthe tabernacle and its contents.
