Textile (England), mid to late 17th century (CH 18398985)

Small curtain of twill weave with linen warp and cotton weft, with all over design embroidered in red wool. From a small semi-circle at bottom springs design of slender ascending vines, with variety of curving pointed leaves showing Indian influence in design. Much interior decoration in leaves, squares, circles, lattice, veining etc. Stems and leaves all edged with feather stitch.
