Stofnun Árna Magnússonar á Íslandi, 78v, Fenrir and Týr
Summary
An illustration of the wolf Fenrir biting the right hand off the god Týr, from an Icelandic 18th century manuscript.
Images come from an Icelandic text called the Melsteðs-Edda, preserved in a manuscript designated, SÁM 66, by the Árni Magnússon Institute for Icelandic Studies, which possesses this and most other Icelandic manuscripts. Written in Iceland in 1765 and 1766, Stofnun Árna Magnússonar á Íslandi is an 18th-century manuscript now at the Árni Magnússon Institute for Icelandic Studies. The back cover is dated 1765. The text follows that of earlier manuscripts and printed books. However, the book contains a nice collection of illustrated pages on pages 73-80 (some of which are reproduced here).
