Summary

Rogers K88 (Washington).Built in Paterson, New Jersey in 1877 the Rogers K88 was the first locomotive to be sent over to New Zealand from America. The Rogers was the first train to haul the Christchurch to Dunedin on New Zeeland's Main Trunk Railway..In the mid 1920's Rogers K88 was dumped in the Oreti River used as flood protection . In 1974 the Ashburton Plains Vintage Railway uncovered the Rogers & hauled it out and brought it over to the Plains Railway to be restored. The main man of this massive restoration was the late Bob Anderson....The K had heaps of things needed done on it so work start with a original red dome with original purple rim gold wheels. The K passed now back in service at the Plains Vintage Railway
