The Electrification on the West Shore. Editor: Between New York and Buffalo theNew York Central Railroad owns orcontrols two separate lines, one a four-and the other a two-track route. Thedouble-track road, or as it is called, theWest Shore, parallels the main line theentire distance, except at one point,that is, between Utica and Syracuse.Between these places the Wrest Shoreis seven miles shorter. For a numberof years the West Shore has given avery inefficient passenger service, therebeing only two passenger trains a dayover some divisions. A few years agoan electric line was proposed betweenUtica and Syracuse, paralleling theWest Shore. This line if running afrequent train service would seriouslyinterfere with the West Shores busi-ness in that section, which contains anumber of villages, and is a thrivingfarming section.
