Marcus Selmer (1819-1900) was a Norwegian photographer known for his portraits of the Norwegian upper class and Norwegian landscapes. He is considered one of the pioneers of photography in Norway and was instrumental in establishing photography as an art form in the country. Selmer's work is characterised by his attention to detail and his use of natural light to create dramatic effects in his photographs. His most famous works include portraits of King Oscar II of Sweden and Norway and the writer Henrik Ibsen.
