Letter from Andrew Paton, Glasgow, [Scotland], to Mary Anne Estlin, 1853 April 20

description

Summary

Andrew Paton writes to Mary Anne Estlin in regards to documents requested to be forwarded to Mr. Chamerovzow by William Smeal for the Glasgow emancipation society and for the Glasgow female anti-slavery society. He sends an article titled, "Friend of the Fugitive" issued by the Glasgow New Female anti-slavery society which he believes is an imitation of the " 'A.S. Advocate' in which you will observe that the same cry of the infidelity of the Am[erican] A.S. Soc[iety] & Mr. Garrison which they have hitherto resorted to, is continued." He discusses these different anti-slavery societies and the affairs between them. He asks that Miss Estlin sends him a copy of Mrs. Stowe's letter to Mr. G[arrison] in which she "states that the she fully sympathized with his treatment of the Am[erican] churches & clergy--if it can with propriety be made public."
