Letter from Adin Ballou, Hopedale [Massachusetts], to Ebenezer Dagget Draper, Jerome Wilmarth, and Nancy W. Levers, 1862 July 9
Summary
Adin Ballou adresses his letter to Ebenezer D. Draper, Jerome Wilmarth, and Nancy W. Levers, the Committee for the procurement of preaching at Hopedale. Ballou summarizes the main points of William Lloyd Garrison's recent sermon delivered at Hopedale, including the observance of the Sabbath and the nature of the Bible, and then requests the committee to invite Garrison back to Hopedale for a free public discussion about his beliefs. Ballou's beliefs are very different from Garrison's and he requests a "fair argument" to "defend and sustain" his own views.
