Hebegan to study art according to nativetraditions early in his teens, but after-wards came in contact with an art teacherwho had visited Europe and taught theWestern style. Later, he studied at theJapanese Water-Colour Institute, Tokyo,and in 1914 he settled in England, pur-suing his studies at the Chelsea Poly-technic School of Art. He has exhibited atthe Royal Institute, the International,and other shows. He works only in water-colour ; for though he has experimentedwith the oil medium, he has never beeaable to adapt himself to it, and has given itup in favour of the more fluent medium.As is almost universally the case with theartists of the Far East, the memory playsan important part in his work.
