258—Nomad Asia Minob Prayeb Rug ^ Executed in Ghiordes pattern about ipo. 0#long^hape. Themihrab, with a red ground, has a shaped and stepped arch out-lined in white, with two ewer tonus and a floral spray taking theplace of the usual mosque lamp. The sky spandrels, on a lighlblue ground, are occupied by a scrolled floral patterning of red.white, blue and yellow. The main border, on a dark ground,has a design of pointed scrolled zigzags occupied by scrolledinterlacements in light colors. The inner and outer guards areof undulating and quatrefoiled patternings on a yellow ground. Length, •) feet K>7s inches; width, I feet j - inch.

1*1 259—Ancient Leaf Rug Western Asia Minor, sixteenth century. An exceptionallychoice specimen, of the same type as the rug No. 260. The field,with a red ground, is patterned with geometrically conven-tionalized leaf forms and interlacements in yellow relieved bypassages of light and dark blue. The main border, on a redground, has a design of regularly diapered quatrefoiled medal-lions and trefoil lilv forms in vellow and red. Length, 5 feet 1 inch; width, 5 feet 1 inch.
