I In 1820, Dennett and Chase, both Democrats, ran against eachother for the new Maine Legislature, and each received sixty-twovotes; a late voter cast his vote for Mr. Dennett, after the count, andhe was declared elected.

B E E W I C K. GENERAL DESCRIPTION. The town of Berwick was originally the northern partof the ancient town of Kittery, and was known prior to itsincorporation as the parish of Unity and precinct of Ber-wick. The southern part was incorporated as the parish ofUnity in 1673.* In 1713 it was incorporated as a town,under the name of Berwick. The whole of Berwick, NorthBerwick, and South Berwick, except a small portion ofYork, which was annexed in 1834, were included withinits bounds in 1720, at which time it extended eight milesabove Quampeagan to Stair Falls, the line thence runningfrom the river northeast by east eight miles, two hundredand ninety-eight rods, to Bonny Beag Pond ; and south-east to Bakers spring and rock, at the boundary betweenthe towns of York and Kittery. South Berwick was takenfrom the south side, in 1814, and North Berwick from thenorthwest, in 1831. The western side, which borders onNew Hampshire, was bounded by the Salmon Falls River,upon which Stair Falls, at th
