Historiated border from BL Add 21412, ff. 81-94*, ff. 81a-f

A dismembered montage of a historiated border, with the text removed, of gold cartouche frames with four scenes in gold monochrome, two inscibed 'Protecta Vestae sussitatis mortuis' (centre left) and 'Johannes destruit templum Dian[a]e' (centre right), garlands of flowers and fruit, lions' heads, naturalistic birds, cherubs and angels, and four medallions inscribed (clockwise from left): 'Qui / timet / deum faci / et bona', 'qui / conti /nens est iu / stiae appre / hendit / illam', 'quasi / mater / honori / fica ta', and 'et / ?ob /?stabit / il / le' (f. 81a; 335 x 245 mm); a cartouche, with the centre removed, of two old men trampling on dragons and plaques inscribed 'Super aspidem ei pasi / lis cum ambulabis' and 'et conculcabis le / onem et draconem' (f. 81c; 45 x 160 mm); a centre for the cartouche inscribed 'Apollonius de Bonfratellis / de Capranica / Capellae et Sacrestiae Apostolicae Miniator / Fecit Anno Domini MDLXIV / Sedente Pio IV Pontif Opt. Max. / de Medicis Mediolanense', with off-setting of rubric and text from the verso of the cartouche (f. 81d; 45 x 170 mm); 1 section of architectural border (f. 81b; 10 x 245 mm); and two strips of scrolls (ff. 81e and f; 50 x 100 mm each). On the reverse of f. 82a are five lines of partial text from the Kyrie Eleison: 'e eleison / e eleison / ste eleison / ste eleison / ste eleison'.
