ORATORICAL CONTEST One of the most important partsof the Commencement exercises lastyear was the Bates Prize OratoricalContest. The prize for this contestwas given by Rev. W. H. Bates, D.D. in 1917. The class of 19 was the first tocontend for this prize. Last yearthere were six excellent orations de-livered by as many Seniors. Thenumber of participants is small asonly the members of the graduatingclass are eligible. The prize whichis fifty dollars or over is presentedto the person who receives the larg-est number of points on composi-tion and delivery. ^ The following have been chosenby the faculty as subjects for theorations: 1.
