George Barret - River Scene with Watermill, Figures and Cows
Summary
The Tate refers to this as an idealised painting, but this unlikely and in may be a scene in either Ireland, Wales or the Lake District. A print of another painting (presumably a pair with this) by Barrett showing the mill and the bridge from the opposite direction exists. The scene appears to be a couple and cowherd, leading cattle home in the evening and Barrett is experimenting with the setting sunlight on the clouds, hillside and roadway.
