The longest non-stop runis from Newcastle to Berwick and then by theNorth British line to Edinburgh, 124J miles in2 hours 20 mins. Plate XXII shows a NorthBritish express leaving Waverley Station, Edin-burgh, for the south. The Company owns 2000locomotives ; and in its own waggons carries morecoal and minerals than any other company.
