Saul zittend op een troon in zijn paleis. Voor hem staat David die speelt op zijn harp, waardoor de kwade geest, in de vorm van een fantasie wezen, van Saul wegvliegt (1 Samuel 16:23). In het landschap op de achtergrond redt David een schaap uit de muil van een beer (1 Samuel 17:34).

David was a skilled musician and poet, and he played the harp to soothe King Saul when he was tormented by evil spirits.
