Claudette Colbert was a French-American actress, born on 13 September 1903 in Saint-Mandé, France, and died on 30 July 1996 in Speightstown, Barbados. Known for her versatility and elegance, she starred in many successful films throughout her career. Colbert began her acting career in the theatre before switching to silent films in the late 1920s. She rose to prominence in Hollywood during the 1930s and 1940s, earning critical acclaim and popular recognition for her performances. Her most notable films include It Happened One Night (1934), for which she won the Academy Award for Best Actress, Cleopatra (1934), The Palm Beach Story (1942) and Since You Went Away (1944). Colbert's career spanned several decades and she continued to act in films, television and theatre into the 1980s. She received numerous awards and honours throughout her life for her contributions to the entertainment industry.
