description

Summary

Verses from song A Soldier's Tear by Thomas Haynes Bayly: Upon the hill he turned, to take a last fond look; At the valley, and the village church, and the cottage by the brook. Beside that cottage porch, a girl was on her knees; she held aloft a snowy scarf, which fluttered in the breeze. She breathed a prayer for him - a prayer he could not hear; But he paused as she knelt there, and wiped away a soldier's tear.
Addressed to John A. Bunce, Mauston, Juneau County, Wisconsin; bears 3 cent stamp.
Gift; Tom Liljenquist; 2010; (DLC/PP-2010:105).
