Summary
Galena, AK (Aug. 6)--Two C-130 airplanes from Coast Guard air station Kodiak wait on the tarmac at the local airport in Galena, AK. Galena became a hub of activity as four C-130s and more that 30 air crewmen flew on two different missions - search and rescue and law enforcement. Both took place in the Bering Sea. The HC-130 Hercules is a long-range surveillance and transport, fixed-wing aircraft that is used to perform search and rescue, enforcement of laws and treaties including illegal drug interdiction, marine environmental protection, military readiness, and International Ice Patrol missions, as well as cargo and personnel transport.
