Bodhisattva, sculpture collection Rijksmuseum
Summary
In Buddhism a bodhisattva is an enlightened being. The buddha figure in the crown makes it clear that we are dealing with Avalokiteshvara. The figure exhibits the influence of Nepal and India, visible in the so-called tribhanga posture with three bends in the body: at the neck, waist, and knee.
