On April 1, 1918, the completion of Belt, Railroad spur tracks atChina Basin, connecting with the Santa Fe system, and at Islais Creek,reached by the Southern Pacific, provided urgently needed trackage forthe important industrial development work in progress at those points.! One of the most important features of Belt Railroad operation isjadequafe trackage for team delivery of freight, and this has beenabundantly provided for in localities best situated for such traffic, thetotal length of team trackage amounting at present to 11,160 feet, witha capacity of 248 cars. As regards additional motive power, my recommendation for the urchase of two more standard six-wheel switching locomotives is now a the hands of the board. I have also advised the purchase of a planer and a boring machineor installation in the Belt Railroad shop. With the addition of thisquipment, the necessity of calling upon railroad machine shops would•e obviated, as practically all locomotive repairs could be accomplishedV our own plant. F. E.
