A painting depicting the Bombardment of Shimonoseki (馬関戦争), a military engagement fought on August 5 through 7, 1864, by a jooint naval forces of Great Britain, France, the Netherlands, and the United States, against the radical Japanese feudal state, Chōshū, along the banks of Kanmon Straights.
