EnGixeerixg DeparTxMent. 49 insufficient to support these tracks, a temporary constructionof I-beams was put in at each end of the bridge. The temporary track construction consisted of track string-ers and supplementary stringers of wood upon which waslaid a 3-inch plank floor about 20 feet wide for the length ofthe bridge, a substantial fence being provided at each side ofthis floor. On top of this planking T-rails were laid at anelevation considerably above that of the rails in the formerbridge, the rails being above the tops of the parapet stones.No attempt was made to provide for team travel by layingflooring up to the top of the rails. The street railway structure was completed and a temporarytrack was opened to travel on November 20, 1907, and duringthe whole work travel had been maintained upon both side-walks. From November 20, 1907, until the work of erectingthe city structure was begun in July, 1908, foot travel wascontinued on both sidewalks and all of the car travel ofBoyl
