RETAIL PRICE-LIST FOR 1874. 2-3 SESSIONS & KNOX'S PATENT HARD STEEL PLOWS.
Text Appearing After Image:
The great aim of plow manufacturers has been to produce Plows with an outer surface hard enough to wear well; but, previous to the introduc- tion of this patent, the trouble has invariably been, that when made hard they were brittle and liable to break, and that when left soft they wore away too quickly. The Plows made under . this patent are free from such disad- vantages, and adapted to all kinds of soil, by having strength, lightness, durability, and all the good qualities of other Plows combined. They possess these qualities by their metal having had about one-third on J w ((fflj each side converted into steel, without ^ «i1 changing the center. This allows each piece to be hardened as much as fire t'i and water can make it, while the cen- ter remains flexible, and gives them a toughness that avoids all liability of breakage. It also gives them a surface better adapted to slide through the soil than is possessed by other Plows, which reduces the amount of power required, besides further add- ing to durability. The Knox's Patent Plows, made of this material, have been abundantly tried on very hard, tough, and stony ground, and accomplish good even work where others leave it unpulver- ized clods. An examination of a piece of the metal plainly shows the flexible iron center and two steel sides in one solid mass, which secures extra strength. The superiority in scouring properties is also readily seen in the fact, that if a file is rubbed across it, no mark is left, while that of other Plows is quickly marked when subjected to the same test, 4 Price $23.
