Leonards double focus tube isconstructed in such a way that a properlocalization without any other device isnot only possible, but sure and simple.(See : Amer. X-Ray Journal, Nov. 1899.)There are tubes in the market suppliedwith additional chamber containing vol-atile salts or wires, the heating of whichreduces the vacuum of the tube, andthus a more uniform vacuum can be ob-tained or the vacuum itself may be regu-lated . The advantages of thisregulating modus operandi comprise thefollowing: 1. That the use of a flame is entirelyabrogated and, 2. That by reason of the addition ofthe auxiliary tube it recommends itselfspecially for long exposures as well asfor exact impressions. 4. Most important of all advantages isthe fact that the regulating elementscontained in the auxiliary tube are soplentifully present that the longevity ofthe tube is thereby secured and withcareful use should last for a long time. Fig. 5 represents the tube, which wasdevised by Edison. Two slanting disksmutually converge the cathodic streamto the area of the glass bulb, at certainangle. With such a tube the over-heat-ing is
