The braking equipment was sup-plemented by the standard hand brake apparatus of the St.Louis Car Company. SERVICE TESTS OF ELECTRIC CARS 39 The Car Body. The car body is one of the standard 21 foot semi-convertibletype of the St. Louis Car Company. Fig. 4 shows the generaldetail features of the car. The side sills are in two parts of yellow pine, the outer sills2^ inches by 7 inches and the inner sills 5f inches by 7 inches.The inside side sills are made in two parts with a 7-inch Ibeam securely bolted between them. All posts and rails areof white oak. The corner posts are 3f inches by 6 inches, andthe side posts are 2J inches. The platform sills are of 2;-inch white oak, and the middlesills are plated with steel plate ^-inch by 5 inches. The bimipersare 2;-inch white oak faced with ^-inch by 5-inch steel plates.The platforms are constructed with entrances on both sides.Each end is equipped with a permanent vestibule with doublefolding doors on each side. The steps are malleable iron hangerwith wood tread covered with safety treads. The hand brakeconsists of l;-inch brake staffs of Norway
