Jane Russell was an American actress and sex symbol, born on 21 June 1921 in Bemidji, Minnesota, USA, and died on 28 February 2011 in Santa Maria, California. She rose to fame in the 1940s and 1950s, known for her roles in a number of successful films, most notably as the leading lady in Howard Hughes' controversial film "The Outlaw" (1943). Russell's performance in The Outlaw attracted attention not only for her acting, but also for the film's emphasis on her physical attributes. She became one of Hollywood's leading sex symbols of the era. Apart from her acting career, Russell was also involved in various philanthropic activities. Some of Jane Russell's other notable films include "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes" (1953), in which she co-starred with Marilyn Monroe, and "The Paleface" (1948) and its sequel "Son of Paleface" (1952), both of which starred Bob Hope. Outside of her acting career, Russell was active in various charitable and humanitarian causes, and she founded the World Adoption International Fund (WAIF), an organisation that helped facilitate the adoption of children. Jane Russell's contributions to the entertainment industry and her humanitarian work have left a lasting legacy.

Josef von Sternberg (1894-1969) was an Austrian-American film director, best known for his work in the early days of Hollywood cinema. He was born on 29 May 1894 in Vienna, Austria-Hungary (now Austria), and later became a naturalised American citizen. Sternberg began his career in the film industry during the silent era and rose to prominence as a director during the transition to sound film. He is best known for his collaborations with the actress Marlene Dietrich. Sternberg directed Dietrich in seven films, most notably The Blue Angel (1930), which marked both her first foray into Hollywood and her international success. Some of Josef von Sternberg's notable films include The Blue Angel (1930): Also known as The Blue Angel, this German film is considered a classic and is often credited with launching Marlene Dietrich to international stardom. Morocco (1930): Another collaboration with Marlene Dietrich, this film marked their first American project together and earned Dietrich her first Academy Award nomination. Dishonoured (1931): A spy thriller starring Marlene Dietrich, this film explores themes of espionage and sacrifice. Shanghai Express (1932): Starring Dietrich and Clive Brook, this film is set against the backdrop of the Chinese Civil War and is renowned for its evocative cinematography. Blonde Venus (1932): Another collaboration with Dietrich, this film explores themes of sacrifice and morality. Despite his early success, Sternberg's career waned in the mid-1930s and he faced financial difficulties. Although he continued to direct films into the 1950s, he never regained the success he had enjoyed with Marlene Dietrich. Josef von Sternberg died on 22 December 1969 in Hollywood, California. Despite the challenges later in his career, Sternberg's contributions to early Hollywood cinema and his artistic approach to filmmaking have had a lasting impact on the industry.
