Hoy como ayer, los enemigos de Juárez

description

Summary

Bi-weekly broadside shows three unsigned cartoons. One political cartoon depicts Benito Juárez, as a symbol of Mexican democracy, pointing a crowd of fascists and Nazis toward the Hill of the Bells (where a firing squad killed Archduke Ferdinand Maximilian, on June 19, 1867). A second political cartoon is set in a Russian steam bath, where Joseph Stalin is telling Adolf Hitler that his massage is still forthcoming. The third cartoon is a commentary on the high price and inferior quality of milk. The text refers to the ideals of democracy as espoused and embodied in the memory of Benito Juárez and how these are being threatened by Fascist elements in Mexico.
