Materials. ;1 piece unbleached musHn 6x254 (practice work).2 pieces unbleached muslin each 6x2^ (seam).Needle, thread, etc., as under Basting. Preparation of Materials. Same as for Basting, except that in preparing the muslin for theseam the pieces may be left double width, 4j4 (folded into halves,quarters and eighths) and the children allowed to tear these in halflengthwise. Drills. Same as for Basting. Use. Running is used (a) on seams where not much strength is required, orwhere the material is too fine to admit of a heavier stitch; (b) fortucking; (c) for shirring. Directions. Position of Cloth. Vertical over the first finger of the left hand. Place the strip of material over the first finger of the left handwith the edge out near the tip of the finger.
