1956-04-29 Mille Miglia Maserati 350 3501 Moss Jenkinson
Summary
Stirling Moss and Dr. Jenkinson in Maserati 350 at the start of 1956 Mille Miglia on 28–29 April 1956. The flag man is probably Renzo Castagneto, he usually did this kind of work. This was a factory racer ("works") and probably it's first race. The two drivers were English and had a bad accident (did not finish). The car was fixed at the factory and got new engine and became a Maserati 450 S prototipo (perhaps with s/n 4501) [1]
It was first held in 1927 and ran until 1957, covering a distance of 1,000 miles (hence the name) from Brescia to Rome and back. The race was renowned for its challenging route through the Italian countryside and for attracting some of the world's most famous drivers and cars. The Mille Miglia was suspended in 1957 after a tragic accident in which several people were killed, but was revived in 1977 as a classic car rally. Today, the Mille Miglia is a highly prestigious event that attracts vintage car enthusiasts from all over the world. The route has been modified to ensure the safety of participants and spectators, but the spirit of the race remains the same, celebrating the beauty and history of classic cars and the thrill of driving them on open roads.
