Reason was that a republican bloc, opposed to allowing the President continued power to devalue the dollar and the Treasury to dip into the $2,000,000,000 stabilization fund, filibustered until midnight, at which time the power was supposed to lapse. Some opinion held that the power could again be granted, even after that time, so Senator Warren R. Austin told reporters that he had a list of 10 Senators who would speak if it held the Senate in session until dawn. The monetary authorization was, as was promised, 'talked to death'

To aid Uncle Same in collecting the tax on the millions of barrels of beer brewed in this country every year, the National Bureau of Standards has designed a master beer meter for use of the alcohol unit of the Bureau of Internal Revenue, U.S. Treasury. Government inspectors employ this master meter in checking the accuracy of the brewery beer meter to determine the volume of beer brewed. Bankers' Association opposes federal insured loans as hazard to established businesses. Washington, D.C., June 15. Robert M. Hanes, 1st Vice President of the American Bankers' Association, and brother of Treasury Undersecretary John W. Hanes, today told the Senate Banking and Currency Committee that the Association opposed the proposed bill to authorize the RFC to insure up to 90 percent on loans to small businesses. He said that it would be a hazard to already established enterprises. He denied that bankers are 'sitting idly by waiting for the borrowers to seek credit'
