Kazakhstan contractors put final touches on the base camp and training area near Almaty, Kazakhstan, prior to the start of Centrasbat 2000 . The Central Asian Peacekeeping Battalion exercise Centrasbat 2000 is a multi-national peacekeeping and humanitarian relief exercise sponsored by United States Central Command (U.S. CENTCOM) and hosted by the former Soviet Republic Kazakhstan in Central Asia. Exercise participants include approximately 300 U.S. troops including personnel from U.S. CENTCOM, the United States Army's 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, North Carolina, and 5th Special Forces Group, Fort Campbell, Kentucky, and approximately 300 Kazakhstan soldiers. The drill allowed military and Project HOPE medical personnel an opportunity to work with and learn from one another. Mission Relief Headquarters. The barn of James Rolph Jr. on Guerrero Street was converted into the headquarters for Mission relief. Later, Rolph became Mayor of San Francisco and then governor. On April 18, 1906 at 5:15 AM a quake of 8.25 on the Richter scale hit San Francisco. Greater destruction came from the fires afterwards. The city burned for three days. The combination destroyed 490 city blocks and 25,000 buildings, leaving 250,000 homeless and killing between 450 and 700. Estimated damages, over $350 million
