Surgeon General says 500 new U.S. hospitals needed. Washington, D.C., June 2. Dr. Thomas Parran, Surgeon General of the Public Health Service, told a Senate Education and Labor Subcommittee today that at least 500 of the 3,000 counties in the U.S. need new hospitals. Although Chairman Murray said there is little chance of the Wagner Bill's passing this year, Parran defended the hospital building program which is a part of that bill

The second National Silicosis Conference in a report to Secretary of Labor Perkins today, recommended enactment of X state and federal laws for protection of 1,000,000 Miners subjected to dangers of silica dust. Charles Dana Gibson, chairman of the division of pictorial publicity of the Committee on Public Information, gave a luncheon in Washington to some of the government's leading publicity men and those who are making Uncle Sam's posters. In this group,  from left to right (without regard to rows) are: D.W. Lee, Herbert Adams, Prof. Richard Rice, Library of Congress; M.L. Blumenthal, H. Devitt Welsh, Oliver Dennet Grover, George Creel, Frederick Keppell, (at top) W.E. Hall (in stripped suit), Edward N. hurley, (with hands folded). Back of Mr. Hurley with gray hat, is Joseph Pennell, whose sketches have been one of the war's best contributions to art. Back of him is Mr. Gibson and back of him R.D. Ready for action the new trailer-laboratory just completed for the United States Public Healthy Service arrived in the Capital today for inspection by government officials. Dr. L.E. Burney and Nurse Fran Miller, (shown in the photo) members of the Public Health Service staff, will travel with the trailer which was built for use in a syphilis project in Georgia.
